UNRWA’s 2011 Gaza Summer Games

Posted: April 28, 2011 by Rex Brynen in Gaza, UNRWA

Once again this year, UNRWA will be organizing summer camps for the kids of Gaza:

Growing up in Gaza isn’t easy. Surrounded by poverty and violence, many children in Gaza lack access to safe environments where they can play, learn, and, well, just be kids. Gaza Summer Games is a large-scale recreational program organized by UNRWA to provide the children of Gaza with stimulating, safe, and, most importantly, fun activities during the long summer break. During the 10-week program, more than 250,000 boys and girls participate in sports, arts & crafts activities, and theater classes.

In 2010 the children of Gaza broke two world records! The children of Gaza currently hold the world record for most kites flown simultaneously and the most people dribbling basketballs at the same time, proving that when given the opportunity, the children of Gaza can be the best in the world!

With your help, we can give the children of Gaza another amazing summer!

In promotion of the 2011 Gaza Summer Games, UNRWA has organized Gaza’s first-ever marathon! The marathon begins in the northern town of Beit Hanun and ends in Rafah. There will be two groups of participants: marathon runners who will run the full 26 miles and locals and children who will run segments of the marathon. Click here to learn more about this exciting new event.
